Simpler Search Productions 2007 5 Minutes Peter Tombrowski: Director/Editor/Cinematographer/Producer/Sound/Sound Designer 3 ½ StarsReviewer Christopher Williams In this compact film Going To Ikea And Costco Without A Car about eco-friendly living as a lifestyle as opposed to a statement, Peter Tombrowski gives a revealing glimpse into how…dare I say it…..easy life could be without a car. Of course he walks a lot, like walking might be a full time job for him, but he also connects with the environment, his family and the community around him. Of course, the titles humourous element stems from the fact that no one with a mode of transport can fathom going to the bulk shopping capitals without an eight wheeler, let alone without any vehicle at all!
The short documentary gives back to its audience by succinctly showcasing our own fall backs. As you watch Tombrowski suit up his ‘jogger’ that he loads up his kids in, and then the groceries afterwards, you can’t help but follow your own trip of grocery store travel. More often than not we are on our last legs, chasing the clock to the grocery store, whipping around it and grabbing at random, charging to the checkout to wait a solid fifteen minutes in line ups as people lazily watch the clerk fill their groceries into bags (how pathetic have we become that we can’t assist in this regard?) and then stomping off to our perfectly climatized vehicle to battle traffic. It seems over stressed and over self important, and yet we feel compelled to do this on a regular basis. Without preachy narrative or over examined subject matter,
Tombrowski’s first film Going To Ikea And Costco Without A Car seems to show a less complicated, more thought out and easily accessible way of living in the concrete jungle. I found the film interesting, efficient in explanation and retrospective. Well worth the five minute viewing if you can find the film to watch! Nelson Mandela turns 90!
Hyde Park in
London (England) was host to the 46664 AIDS/HIV charity event to both celebrate
the heroes birthday, and promote awareness of his charity named after the
number he was gave for his 27 year socially unjust prison sentence on Robin
Island (South Africa). July 18th welcomed the `big stars`from Will Smith (who
hosted), to attendees Oprah, and Uma (Thurman) the event had `Birthday
Bash`wrote all over it. The performers list was endless, such as Annie Lennox,
and Josh Groban who both gave delightful tributes to Mandela`s legacy.
