They’re back! Danny Ocean and his crew of thieves return in this third installment - as good as ever - full of laughs and as always, a genius heist. I really enjoyed this film, although I did walk into the theatre slightly skeptical of what I was about to watch; and why not? This is the third time the cast has made a movie and sometimes three times can be a gamble, but I think in this case, it was just right. Ocean’s Fourteen? I’m not so sure about that one! As opposed to a money-snatching scheme, the third installment is all about revenge! The revenge they are seeking is against Willy Banks (Al Pacino), who double-crossed one of Ocean’s crew, Reuben (Elliott Gould). As usual, the scheme is set in a casino, but this time the plot is more elaborate and daring (it involves some kind of earthquake-creating machine!). Under the pressure of time and the difficulty of their plan, Ocean and the gang must turn to the antagonist from the first film, Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), for help. Through a plot filled with twists, turns and complications, the film is gripping and, of course, the characters always have a way to make you laugh, but in the end the question is - will Ocean and his band of thieves be able to achieve the perfect revenge? What I really enjoy about all three of the Ocean films are the characters. If the writers of the movies didn’t take the time to develop the characters’ personalities and relationships, the films would be incomplete, because they add so much to the plot, and generally make the film more interesting! All in all I would say this is a thoroughly enjoyable movie to watch, and I would encourage those who weren’t too satisfied with Ocean’s 12 to give this crew another chance, because they really did raise the stakes in the third installment. |
