Title: The Care Package Director: Brad Gover
Date saw the show: August 15 2007 2 ½ stars Reviewed By: Emily Axelson The Care Package – PG. Mature Theme (Canada-10:00 Comedy, Brad Gover – Director) A young man who is estranged from his girlfriend decides to mail himself to her in a box.
If in a different category, The Care Package would have been poor. But in ‘The Odd Side of Life’ category, fit for a Fringe Festival, The Care Package was intriguing. A young man used to have the perfect relationship…until the girlfriend moved away. Now they rarely speak, and their old spark no longer, is gradually dying out. To diminish their communication issue, he decides to go see her. He is short on money, so he is unable to take a plane. He then comes up with an absurd but doable idea…to send himself to her in the mail. He makes all the necessary preparations; buys an appropriate sized box, food, and water. When he arrives, I’m sure you’ll be surprised at the twist like I was. Yes, the twist at the end was surprising, very surprising. I almost feel as though there was a hidden message in there somehow. I can’t exactly figure out what it was, but I’m still thinking about it. The film succeeded in that way, so if that was the purpose, then it worked. The acting wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t bad. I give it credit for having such an original storyline. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen this story anywhere else! A very unusual idea that seems to work! Again, I think this film passes, but it didn’t wow me. |

Island (South Africa). July 18th welcomed the `big stars`from Will Smith (who
hosted), to attendees Oprah, and Uma (Thurman) the event had `Birthday
Bash`wrote all over it. The performers list was endless, such as Annie Lennox,
and Josh Groban who both gave delightful tributes to Mandela`s legacy.
