Reviewed by Christofer D'Andrea (Vancouver Correspondent - Canada) Director of Pineapple Express, David Gordon Green, puts together a hysterical mix of action and comedy that doesn't fail in delivering the laughs with its outrageous storyline. "I just got a shipment of Pineapple Express, the "dopest" dope I've ever smoked. Smelllllll it. It's like........God's vagina". Fair comparison? You be the judge, but this is definitely one train that gets you where you want to be. Dale Denton (Seth Rogen, who co-wrote the script with Evan Goldberg) finds himself witnessing a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and Ted Jones (Gary Cole) murdering an Asian gang member while harmlessly smoking some of his new ‘rare' weed. In a panic, Denton tosses his weed and bolts out of there (not so smoothly I should add). Without knowing who to turn to, Denton returns back to his beloved dealer Saul Silver (James Franco). After the two put their stoner caps together, they come to realize that they can be traced to the murder scene because of the rareness of their special weed "Pineapple Express". And so begins the hilarious adventure that is so commonly known as ‘marijuana'. With the arrival of Saul's "tight" friend Red (Danny R. Mcbride) and Denton's high school girlfriend Angie (Amber Heard) the film continues to grow (no pun intended) and entertain as much as any regular action film would be expected. The relationship between Rogen and Franco is immediately charming, I challenge anyone not to fall in love with Franco's (Spiderman series) portrayal of the pot dealing Saul Silver, as he puts on one of his best performances to date. Seth Rogen of course, teams up once again with Judd Apatow to produce the film (Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Step Brothers). I for one will not be boycotting any future productions the two would like to deliver. |
