Depicting the extraordinary life and times of one of America's least understood and most underestimated founding fathers, John Adams chronicles the journey of the second President of the United States who many consider one of the primary shapers of America's independence and government. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography by David McCullough, John Adams uses the experiences of its title character to tap into the birth of the American republic and its first 50 years. With the fervent support of his wife Abigail (Laura Linney), and through a lifelong rivalry and friendship with Thomas Jefferson (Stephen Dillane), Adams (Paul Giamatti) rises to be the leader of the American independence movement. He plays a pivotal role in the shaping of U.S. policy, helps foster a revolution, coaxes Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence, navigates stormy relationships with European allies, and steers a course away from partisan politics. John Adams is executive produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, directed by Tom Hooper and also stars Canada's Sarah Polley, Tom Wilkinson, David Morse, Danny Huston, Rufus Sewell, Justin Theroux and Guy Henry. Subsequent installments of John Adams will air Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on The Movie Network and 8 p.m. PT on Movie Central and will also be simulcast on Movie Central and The Movie Network's High Definition channels. New episodes will also be available each week on The Movie Network OnDemand and Movie Central On Demand. |

Which ultimately means that wealthier countries do not bleed third world countries for cheap labour. Seriously, it's a big problem, and while my brief encounter with awareness hit me in the early 1990s with Nike, and then with the outrageous brush with humiliation Kathy Lee Gifford was subjected to (wasn't everyone else doing the same as KLG?), I had little experience with the subject matter. Then the idea of Fair Trade slid slowly into my psyche, and when your High School school-bag toting cousin is more savvy on the subject then you, it's time to strip off and read the damn labels...Read More |
