This year was all about Grammy at 50 and a hand full of Life Time Achievement Awards were handed out, a collection of tributes and a few of the legends shared some stage time with the future legends...

Performances:

Grammy's opening performance Alicia Keys singing with big screen version of Frank Sinatra was a fitting start to the evening of tributes. The Grammy's hit the right note between honouring the past, acknowledging the present and looking towards the future.

Carrie Underwood performed her country hit ‘Before He Cheats' with a backdrop of a garage with Stomp type performers in the background. Underwood hit the ball out the park as she commanded the stage and looked absolutely stunning going from American Idol to an industrial edged country style.

Rihanna set the stage alight with ‘Umbrella,' then a tribute to the Beatles with Cirque Du Soleil performing onstage to the Beatles classics. 

Kanye West was the hit of the night dividing his time between singing a 80s inspired dark with techno-colour highlights and those signature Kanye glasses for his hit ‘Stronger,' then he changed the scene dramatically with a single spotlight, and a woman dancing on the big screens above. Kanye took his hoodie off had the word ‘Mama' shaved into his head. He sang a tribute to his Mother called ‘Hey Mama' from his previous album called Late Registration that was so deeply seated in emotion and heart that he had a job to get through the performance and not a dry eye was left in the house. This was a fitting tribute for Kanye's Mother as he lost her very recently and they were very close. It was the best moment of the night.

Fergie and John Legend followed with a low key piece. Then Tina Turner Hit the stage performing ‘What's Love Got To Do With It' and a duet with Beyonce of ‘Proud Mary,' these women were too hot for the stage. The Foo Fighters churned out an ear ringer for an outside audience and Brad Paisely brought his unique lyrics to the stage for ‘Ticks.'

Canadian girl Feist had a heartbreaking moment as she seemed visibly terrified by the event while performing her mega hit ‘1234.' I think we all expected more from her performance as she is such an original thinker, and she looked as though she expected the same from herself.

‘Black Magic' was performed by Keelie Smith and Kid Rock, who had a hard time keeping up with her vocally.

Alicia Keys rearranged her hit ‘No One,' and it didn't quite have the impact of the original arrangement. Guest musician was a saving grace as Jon Mayer tore a strip off his guitar just in time to make the song end up better than it had started.

Herbie Hancock and Lang Lang performed an esteemable version of ‘Rhapsody in Blue.'

Amy Winehouse popped out of rehab temporarily to sing her hit ‘Rehab' on stage in London. She seemed a little awkward, but then she always has. She was visibly shocked at winning Best Album.

Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli perform ‘The Prayer' as a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, who passed away this year. Who were dynamite together. Why have we never got these two crazy kids together  to perform before?

Jerry Lee Lewis sang ‘Great Balls Of Fire,' as if he'd been doing it for years....and Little Richard brought back ‘Good Golly Miss Molly' to the stage, with John Fogarty to round out the group.

And The Award Goes To:

Amy Winehouse cleaned house as she was five-time Grammy winner of the evening, with Kanye West catching four Grammy's in his net.

Album Of The Year:  Herbie Hancock 'River: The Joni Letters' (Herbie points out it has been 43 years since the last Jazz Artist won for Album Of The Year)

Fashion Passion:

Best Dressed Female: Taylor Swift was stunning in a classic lavender gown, which was the perfect colour for her skin tone and an elegant dress befitting a young woman of 18.

Best Dressed Male:Tom Hanks was the best dressed male of the night, looking slim, with a gorgeous dark suit and grey tie.

Mention Worthy:Faith Hill was stunning with more blonde than usual locks, and a one shoulder sleek black dress. Hill looked polished and elegant, just the right balance for the Oscar red carpet, but not perhaps for the Grammy's slightly edgier fashion.

Worst Dressed: Nelly Furtado looked like she'd raided Joan Collins dressing room from Dynasty; normally a striking beauty, Furtado dyed her hair blonde, chopped it off and paired it with a 80s blue shiny gown. Sad to say, she was the worst dressed of the evening.

Highlights:

Cirque Du Soleil performing to some Beatles classics, followed by a gospel version of ‘Let it Be.'

Kanye West's acceptance speech, and his comment to the band who were trying to sweep in the music as his time was up, but as Kanye was thanking his Mother at the time, he said to the band ‘It would be in good taste for you to stop the music right now,' which they did.

Ludacris introduces Aretha Franklin for a beautiful gospel tribute.

Prince in the house!!!

Vince Gill ‘I just had an award given to me by a Beatle. Did you get that yet Kanye?' followed by a smiling Kanye in the audience and a ‘Just kidding' by Gill as a way to soften the joke. Gill also said that ‘music is where democracy truly lives, as every note is equal.'
