heidi_klum.jpgWho wore what and how great did they look? A look at the fashion of the 80th Academy Awards. Old Hollywood returned to the red carpet this year as the women were statuesque in vibrant red!

Red, red, red! The night was all about old Hollywood. Heidi Klum, Anne Hathaway, Miley Cyrus (Valentino), Katherine Heigl (could this girl be any more beautiful?) in Escada, Ruby Dee all in red, which just proved that any woman who wears red looks fabulous! Especially when wearing a red evening gown.

katherine_heigloscars.jpgRenee Zellweger went with her typical off the shoulder, form-fitting number, but in shimmering silver this time. George Clooney wore the best accessory as his first actual date to the red carpet, Sarah Larson (Valentino), looked stunning in a sea green dress accentuated with soft pink detailing, which complimented her skin tone beautifully. Laura Linney was classic, but in black; her utilitarian approach to clothes suits her personality well, and the big punch to the dress was a stunning necklace to rival Rose's ‘the heart of the ocean' in Titanic. Hilary Swank also wore classic black, but a one-shouldered Versace, and looked equally stunning as Linney for doing so. Jennifer Garner was all couture in black with a diamond studded choker, but her hair was a mess. Cameron Diaz wore a soft pink Dior dress that might have translated better in person than on screen. Amy Adams, of Enchanted has such an old Hollywood look to her face that she can't do much wrong walking down any red carpet, but her elegant hunter green dress wasn't perhaps the best fit for a vibrant red carpet. Penelope Cruz looked typically dynamite in an off the shoulder black dress. Ellen Page was neither over dressed nor underdressed for the event; she reminded me of the days we would see Winona Ryder hit the red carpet, looking pretty but not over stylized. Cate Blanchett, who is normally stunning, was happily pregnant, but looked a little like a Grecian woman Vegas style with purple dress and shimmering gold collar courtesy of Dries van Noten.

Best Dressed:
Heidi Klum (John Galliano), being the supermodel she is, looked sensational in red and an up-do. I was impressed with Miley Cyrus who looked like a Hollywood legend in an age-appropriate red dress, long dangle earrings, and a ponytail to keep her look youthful. She looked like a lady, not bad for being sixteen. Another woman in red was Helen Mirren who was stunning in a satin red dress with ornate sparkling Swarovski crystal sleeves by Georges Chakra. Between all the women in red, they show how beautiful you can be no matter what part of the age spectrum you are on.

Worst Dressed:
Marion Cotillard who played Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose wore a John Paul Gautier dress that looked like she was a cream-coloured scaled fish. Kelly Preston (Roberto Cavalli) wore a horribly coloured dress, somewhere between yellow and orange, what you'd assume the colour Oscar looks like after five decades. Rebecca Miller, Daniel Day Lewis's wife looked like a present as she was in black velvet with a huge black flower front and centre with red bow straps (bless her). Diablo Cody, screenwriter for Juno was once an exotic dancer and now she is nominated for an Oscar. Her dress was leopard print, her tattoos were front and centre, and even though it isn't Oscar apparel, it did not seem out of character for her; she smiled a lot making the outfit less appalling.

FASHION ACCESORY MUST HAVE: The Baby Bump (Cate Blanchett, Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman set the trend, but really the film Juno is to blame for it)

Nelson Mandela turns 90!
Hyde Park in London (England) was host to the 46664 AIDS/HIV charity event to both celebrate the heroes birthday, and  promote awareness of his charity named after the number he was gave for his 27 year socially unjust prison sentence on Robin Island (South Africa). July 18th welcomed the `big stars`from Will Smith (who hosted), to attendees Oprah, and Uma (Thurman) the event had `Birthday Bash`wrote all over it. The performers list was endless, such as Annie Lennox, and Josh Groban who both gave delightful tributes to Mandela`s legacy.
