One of those guilty pleasures is listening to the comedy musings of Chris Rock. You can only work towards educated evolution so long before you need a little Rock. Every time I see a Chris Rock special on TV I have to watch it, as you are guaranteed a little politically charged satire, racial irony, ‘f’ing and ‘jeffing,’ and humour so crass I couldn’t repeat a single joke in this review. Yep, a guilty pleasure you just love to indulge in, and now you can enjoy ‘all the Greatest Bits’ in this newest CD collection from Rock called Cheese & Crackers – The Greatest Bits released on December 11th.

Cheese & Crackers is a scathing compilation of all Rock’s best comedy bits that have you writhing around with laughter with classics like ‘The Church Of ATM,’ ‘Gun Control,’ ‘Tossed Salad Man,’ ‘The Government Hates Rap,’ ‘Affirmative Action,’ ‘Platonic Friends,’ and ‘Women Lie.`

Chris Rock is insightful, honest, and a brilliant commentator on people, society and culture. He’s a great communicator infused with a multitude of humour and shock tactics. He takes a microscope to society and really exposes how stupid we all really are about everything at times. Really, Rock is giving a huge roasting about society and we are all laughing along.

For some, Chris Rock’s humorous comedy skits can be too offensive, after all, his humour isn’t of the ‘Uncle Milty’ variety, but I do believe that tough times call for tough measures. Meet the issues eye to eye, as crass as they actually are (those issues we are all trying to cover up and sweep under the rug most of the time) and he even brings some solutions to the table that draw on clear and perceptive logic. One example is a skit where Rock says he kicked a woman out of a night club on a weeknight who had two kids at home ‘go home, go home and look after your babies so that they don’t rob me in ten years!’ or along the same lines he says you can tell a kid will grow up to be criminals when they call their Grandma ‘Mama’ and their Mama’s ‘Pam.’ Harsh but true.

I can’t imagine why this was released in time for Christmas as it doesn’t seem like the ideal stocking stuffer; however, Chris Rock is one of the best comedians today and well worth investing in. The Greatest Bits is a great way to have his famous skits together, like on his TV specials, but we are looking forward to Rock’s new scathing material that will have us all in hysterics.

By: Kindah Mardam Bey (Ontario Correspondent - Canada)

Recently, the question of where exactly my clothing is made has come to my attention. That little equal sign symbol on the back of Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin's hand represents Fair Trade. Which ultimately means that wealthier countries do not bleed third world countries for cheap labour. Seriously, it's a big problem, and while my brief encounter with awareness hit me in the early 1990s with Nike, and then with the outrageous brush with humiliation Kathy Lee Gifford was subjected to (wasn't everyone else doing the same as KLG?), I had little experience with the subject matter. Then the idea of Fair Trade slid slowly into my psyche, and when your High School school-bag toting cousin is more savvy on the subject then you, it's time to strip off and read the damn labels...Read More
