As far as I can gather, Wildfires is Mohawk Lodge’s second CD released (Rare Birds was their debut). They are a five person indie rock band from Vancouver. In short, their music intends to ‘bridge the gap between Fleetwood Mac and the Constantines,’ according to their promos.

I did find for myself their sound seemed stuck in the 90s…before Seattle. The music lacks in originality or even deviation from one song to another. Mohawk Lodge may have crafted a sound, but it isn’t a sound that stands out. The songs seemed repetitive and the ballad ‘Timber’ really seemed repetitive as the words ‘I call timber’ appeared to make up most of the song.

I normally like to say something positive and redeeming about a CD or a group if I can’t be favourable in the review because of the music, but truly this was an arduous collection to listen to.

It was as if the ‘campfire’ feel they were looking for should have been where Mohawk Lodge left these songs. Sorry guys of Mohawk Lodge, but this probably won’t be the last time you hear this; in fact, you might hear it repeatedly.

GIRLTV

Looking at how teenage girls "really" are...

By: Sarah Rix

Teenage girls rejoice! Seems like television has been built to cater to your every need. From the new 90210 to the Hills to Gossip Girl to Privileged and beyond, there are more than enough shows that aim to please this selective, consumer-driven crowd.

And surely I can't be the only person that's noticed how realistic these shows happen to be; the high school teenagers who look like they're in their mid-twenties, the new wardrobes they have for every single scene, the extensive amount of drama that makes their lives worth watching. Oh yes, that sounds exactly like the remnants of My So Called Life. READ MORE
