3 Stars Reviewed By: Sarah Miller (Vancouver Correspondent - Canada) Since forming a little over a year ago, Texas rockers Forever the Sickest Kids have had measurable success on the internet and last summer's Vans Warped Tour. An accidental purchase of a front page spot on the internet music site Pure Volume kick-started the band's considerable internet following and first brought them to the attention of record labels. Their first full length album, Underdog Alma Mater on Universal, hit stores April 29th and their single ‘Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)' was featured in a recent episode of MTV's The Hills. The overall sound of the album is comparable to bands like Simple Plan or Relient K, full of catchy guitar riffs, tight harmonies, danceable synth beats and lyrics teenagers can relate to. While it may have all the staples of a good pop punk album, the sound is fairly unoriginal. Their debut single, ‘Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)' is upbeat and energetic, with an anthem-like chorus which is sure to be radio friendly, but not to set Forever the Sickest Kids apart from the crowd of pop punk bands already receiving airplay on radio and MTV. Still, Underdog Alma Mater is an upbeat and fun album, albeit a bit generic. It is perfect for teenagers to rock out to on the way to their summer jobs at the mall. Fans can catch Forever the Sickest Kids on this Summer's Alternative-Press tour, sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink. Suggested Downloads: Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone); Believe Me, I'm Lying

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian 1951-2008
I can only think of one person when I think of this epic series that ignited my imagination as a child, that I saw versions of in theatre productions, that I saw on the BBC, and now on the big screen - My Auntie. It was her own love of the story that she passed onto me; perhaps just the way C.S. Lewis intended his story of Narnia to be shared...like a legend passed down to each generation. |
