3.5 Stars

Every Friday after a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy I find myself on the show’s website “music guide”, looking up songs, because I always hear at least one song that I like when watching an episode.  The music is such a huge part of the show; without it the atmosphere and mood of the Grey’s Anatomy world would be lost.  The music is the very heart and soul of the show; but I found that this particular selection of the show’s music wasn’t exactly satisfying.

What I do like about this particular installment of the show’s soundtrack is that there is both upbeat and slower songs.  For example, ‘Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That’, by Robert Randolph, is most definitely the type of song that you could just jump up and dance to – while ‘Keep Breathing’, by Ingrid Michaelson is a slow ballad (with a good build at the end) that you could just sit and listen to after a hard day.

What disappointed me about this soundtrack is the fact that there were so many excellent songs played throughout the season, and they were many that were better than the select few picked to be put onto this album.  ‘Make This Go On Forever’, by Snow Patrol, and ‘A Bitter Song’, by Butterfly Boucher, are both wonderful songs with beautiful lyrics, yet they were not picked to be on the CD.

That aside, my favourite song from the third installment of the show’s soundtrack was ‘The Story’, by Brandi Carlile.  I love the way the song starts off slow and melancholy, then transitions into a powerful, upbeat tune.  Every time I listen to it the strong music fills my soul.  It certainly joins ‘Chasing Cars’, by Snow Patrol, from the last season, on my “favourite songs” list.

So, once again, I can’t say this soundtrack quite met up to my expectations.  I know there are many more extraordinary songs that could have been put on this album, so it’s not as if the music choices on the show are anything below exceptional – it’s just the tunes picked to be put on the soundtrack for this season seemed to let me down.

FALL RUNWAY TRENDS 2008
Jenny Sung (Toronto Correspondent - Canada)

Now that the summer is coming to an end (I say this as I choke back tears), it's time for a wardrobe haul!  The fall season may be all too short in our wonderful home and native land, but I think it's long enough to at least go out and invest in a pair of leggings or two.

Speaking of leggings...that is one trend that hasn't seemed to fade so quickly, as it made a repeat appearance on the runways this year.  Of course, since they are for fall/winter, ditch the sheers and go for the heavier, more opaque stockings in any variety of colours and textures (but stick to grays, navys, purples, and blacks - this season's palette).  Paired with an ankle boot, your look is halfway complete...read more
