With such a huge reputation to uphold, the seventh album from Oasis was highly anticipated and it does not disappoint. It is their first record since 2005, and provides a bit of a diversion from their previous sound. Noel Gallagher describes it this way: “I wanted to write music that had a groove…I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic and driving, with songs that would draw you in; songs that you would maybe have to connect to - to feel.”

Their first single off the album, “The Shock of Lightning,” is an upbeat track that you can really get into after only hearing it once. As with most of these tracks, they are very easy to listen to, and have a refined, classic, and comfortable sound. Their slower songs are also very well done, and although they do not quite measure up to hits like “Wonderwall,” they are still exceedingly well written and composed. With intense lyrics and catchy, dense rock beats, this album is set to be one of their best ever.

The band seems to have settled into their sound even further, and it sounds like this could be the beginning of a new era for Oasis. Rock fans of all types will be able to enjoy this record as it is simply and classically brilliant.
