The Shouting Ground puts on a show you most definitley do not want to miss.  As a solid part of Winnipeg’s local indie music scene, the band members have collaborated a group of multi-talented individuals, each capable of playing several instruments, resulting in a unique funky sound that sheds an infectious vibe.

Group members, J Saint James (vocals, electric and acoustic guitar), Tim “Scratch” Friesen (piano, trumpet), Ian Mikita (drums, percussion, bass, vocals), Bruce Berven (percussion, vocals, bass),  Sara Clefstad (vocals, saxophone, percussion) and the Organic  Chocolate Shockwave (bass, electric and acoustic guitar), display the creative ability of matching rhyme with reason in their already released song, ‘Run T’Ward’. According to band member J Saint James, “This song is primarily about helping the poor in any way we can. A lot of our songs are about trying to make the world a better place”.  Run T’Ward has gained local recognition through Winnipeg’s radio stations and can be heard on Hot 103 FM and CHVN 95.1 FM.

The Shouting Ground’s upcoming single ‘Big Money’ written by group member, The Organic Chocolate Shockwave, is set to be released within the next month. The song casts a significant opinion on anti-consumerism and the pursuit of love vs. greed. The groups charitable intentions are not only exhibited through lyrics, they are currently working on putting together a fundraiser for War Child in mid-February 2009.

Musically influenced by artists such as The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and CCR it is no surprise the dance floor becomes fully occupied once the group begins to play. Not only does their music spark a contagious energy, but the vivacious colors that exude from their distinct sound are seen as inspirational for local artist Kristin Norman. She enjoys setting up her easel beside the stage at group performances. Using bright colors to articulate The Shouting Ground’s positive beat, she allows the music to draw for her, creating notable folk art by the end of each show.

Judging by the smiles shared by the overly-pleased crowd, The Shouting Ground guarantees a fun-filled experience with the only disappointment being the end of the night; when the band has to pack up and leave.  The band will be playing next at Shannon’s Irish Pub in downtown Winnipeg on Dec 6th, 2008. The Shouting Ground hits the stage at 10:00 pm; but I would come early. After the soul shake down party they provide, there is bound to be a line-up.
